Job Summary:
The Safety and Physical Security Coordinator oversees and enforces the safety and physical security programs for the plant.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of the security team.
- Assists with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Conducts daily inspections of each area of the plant, assessing and ensuring compliance with all applicable company and government safety, health, and security regulations and procedures.
- Inspects fire extinguishers each month; inspects all other fire protection equipment to ensure the equipment is in proper working order.
- Maintains files and documentation related to security operations.
- Maintains files and documentation related to safety inspections and operations.
- Oversees permit processes, issuing special permits for regulated activities such as enclosed space entry, welding operations (explosives), and transport of hazardous supplies and materials.
- Develops and implements safety and security programs; provides required training on new programs and procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable government compliance regulations, which may include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Defense (DOD), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) regulations.
- Accompanies agency staff such as staff conducting safety, fire, and physical audits, throughout the facility; assists with audit process as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports, permits, and training records.
- Thorough understanding of all applicable government safety and security regulations.
Education and Experience:
- At least ten years of safety management experience some of which should include directing physical or DOD security programs.
- Some experience administering employment policies and procedures required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to travel throughout facility to conduct safety inspections.
