Job Summary:
The Tire Changer/Repairer will diagnose, repair, rotate, and change tires.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Uses hydraulic jacks to lift vehicles.
- Inspects tire casing to identify holes, tears, or other defects.
- Explains technical diagnoses and repairs and answers customers questions in nontechnical terms.
- Identifies appropriate tire size and ply; inflates tires to proper air pressure based on product information.
- Identifies punctures in tubeless tires by visually inspecting the tire or immersing it in a water bath and locating bubbles.
- Removes items puncturing tires; injects or inserts adhesive materials and expanding rubber plugs to seal punctures in tubeless tires; glues or seals patches over ruptures as appropriate.
- Uses lug wrenches and other hand or power tools to unbolt and remove wheels from vehicle.
- Rotates tires using appropriate tools.
- Identifies counterweights required to balance wheels with the use of balancing machines; attaches counterweights onto rims.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to understand and comply with tire repair and replacement standards.
- Ability to safely and efficiently work with related tools and lifts.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous related experience, OR;
- Successful completion of a vocational automotive tire service training program.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods working in confined, awkward spaces.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and lifts.
- The ability to handle extreme temperatures, loud and continuous noise exposure, dirt, oil, and other chemicals.
- Exposure to hazardous circumstances.
