Job Summary:
The Transportation Engineer will plan and develop transportation facilities and projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepares and designs plans for new transportation systems or parts of systems.
- Identifies traffic problems and recommends methods and modifications that can improve traffic flow or safety.
- Ensures conformity to engineering standards and practices by reviewing construction plans, calculations for designs, and cost estimators.
- Evaluates plans and proposals by other engineers; makes modifications as needed.
- Prepares traffic operation reports that are administrative, technical, or statistical in nature.
- Prepares budgets, schedules, or specifications for labor or materials for each project.
- Evaluates lighting systems, transportation systems, and traffic control devices to determine needs for current or future modifications or expansion.
- Estimates costs for transportation projects.
- Evaluates the effects of activities by modeling transportation scenarios; identifies possible solutions to transportation issues.
- Collaborates with contractors, utility companies, and/or government agencies concerning plans, work schedules, or specifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of civil engineering.
- Thorough understanding of mathematics.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required; Masters degree preferred.
- One year of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
