Environmental Economist




Job Summary:

The Environmental Economist will study the economic effects of environmental policies and business decisions, publishing and presenting results, analysis, and recommendations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Researches direct and indirect effects of economic decisions on the environment.
  • Researches direct and indirect effects of environmental policies on the economy.
  • Drafts academic journal articles to present research findings and economic forecasts.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations of research findings and economic forecasts.
  • Researches interdisciplinary topics that affect the economy and environment such as pollution, soil conservation, land use, and animal conservation.
  • Evaluates environmental policies and regulations to determine costs and benefits.
  • Researches the relationship between environmental problems and economic activities.
  • Predicts future economic and environmental outcomes.
  • Studies the long-term costs of restoring damaged and polluted environments.
  • Prepares and submits grant proposals and applications for research funding.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of economics and environmental policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of research processes and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present research findings clearly.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Economics with a focus in Environmental Economics required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Three years of related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
