Job Summary:
The Environmental Economist will study the economic effects of environmental policies and business decisions, publishing and presenting results, analysis, and recommendations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Researches direct and indirect effects of economic decisions on the environment.
- Researches direct and indirect effects of environmental policies on the economy.
- Drafts academic journal articles to present research findings and economic forecasts.
- Prepares and delivers presentations of research findings and economic forecasts.
- Researches interdisciplinary topics that affect the economy and environment such as pollution, soil conservation, land use, and animal conservation.
- Evaluates environmental policies and regulations to determine costs and benefits.
- Researches the relationship between environmental problems and economic activities.
- Predicts future economic and environmental outcomes.
- Studies the long-term costs of restoring damaged and polluted environments.
- Prepares and submits grant proposals and applications for research funding.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of economics and environmental policies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of research processes and procedures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to present research findings clearly.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Economics with a focus in Environmental Economics required; advanced degree preferred.
- Three years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
