As organizations look to provide perks that will attract and retain key talent, many are coming to realize that offering pet-friendly benefits—whether that means take-your-dog-to-work days, pawternity leave; pet insurance; pet bereavement leave; or animal-related volunteer excursions—can be an effective tool for improving recruitment, morale and even wellness.
More workplaces are thinking about employees' pets and their needs, especially after pet adoption soared during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, SHRM's 2023 Employee Benefits Survey, released June 12, shows that pet insurance is on the rise. Nearly 1 in 5 employers (19 percent) of employers now offer the benefit—up from 14 percent that offered pet insurance in 2022.
