Job Summary:
The Chief Stationary Engineer will oversee the day-to-day activities of stationary and maintenance engineers and related staff and will assign, delegate, review, and follow up on routine and special maintenance and assignments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Interviews, hires, and trains new stationary and maintenance engineers.
- Provides work schedules and assignments for reporting staff including testing, maintenance, and repair of physical plant machinery and systems.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
- Recommends promotions and transfers to Vice President of Operations or other appropriate staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensures proper inspections are made and records are kept based on company protocols.
- Interprets mechanical specifications and operational manuals for maintenance engineers and other staff when needed.
- Ensures automatic recording devices are working properly.
- Collaborates with comptrollers office to create a budget for major purchases for physical plant equipment; provides accurate and reasonable specifications for related expenditures.
- Attends and actively participates in management meetings with other heads of departments.
- Actively participates in continuing education programs to remain current on technological advancements and developments; suggests improvements based on this information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of and ability to execute proper maintenance procedures for mechanical and plant equipment including, but not limited to, pressure-reducing valves, air filtration, pumps, fans, and all fire equipment and sensors.
- Ability to learn and understand highly technical subjects.
- Ability and desire to continue learning and updating skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
- Ability to act responsibly and ethically.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required, Associates degree preferred.
- At least five years of job-related experience as a general maintenance, boiler, or similar engineer, with at least two years in supervisory role, required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access boiler, air-conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and other systems by squatting, reaching, stretching, and standing.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities in all types of weather.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays at times.
