Job Summary:

The Coordinator, School Safety and Security will manage safety and security programs for the school district and will oversee emergency response procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Hires and trains qualified staff for safety and security operations.
• Organizes and oversees the schedules of departmental staff.
• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Implements safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment.
• Evaluates effectiveness of school safety and security programs.
• Develops plans, procedures, and objectives to facilitate and improve safety and security programs.
• Ensures application of safety and security protocols to public events, sports events, and other extracurricular school district activities.
• Recommends and implements procedures and best practices to prevent and deter violence at schools or other district properties.
• Conducts background checks and screenings for school district employees.
• Researches and recommends additions and improvements to the safety management program, particularly in areas such as emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
• Coordinates with local law enforcement and other appropriate health and safety professionals in matters of public safety involving students and staff.
• Evaluates effectiveness of security and surveillance equipment on school district properties.
• Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent management and supervisory skills.
• Extensive knowledge of safety codes and emergency preparedness.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field required.
• Five years of experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or security required.

Physical Requirements:

• Physically able to conduct inspections and traverse all properties belonging to the school district.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer at times.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
