Health Information Administrator




Job Summary:

The Health Information Administrator will collect, process, retrieve, analyze, and disseminate health care information for purposes of patient care, research, managerial planning, and decision making. The Health Information Administer will maintain confidentiality and ensure that the health data system meets the standards and regulations of government agencies and accrediting and professional organizations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and trains transcriptionists to see that recordkeeping is performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Supervises clerical staff, prepares work schedules, and evaluates job performance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Meets with department heads and supervisors to determine needs for improvements to the information system.
  • Relays information to the telecommunications manager who has the technological expertise to design modifications and to supervise computer programmers.
  • Supervises implementation of modifications to ensure that new features are operating correctly and reliably before final approval is given.
  • Designs and prepares reports as requested by the accounting department, long-range planning committees, and medical staff.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in health information administration or business, computer science, or related field plus a post-baccalaureate certificate program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education.
  • Two or more years of experience in a nonsupervisory capacity as a health information specialist.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
