Job Summary:
The Nutrition Educator will develop and implement nutrition education services and programs for hospital employees, individuals, and groups referred by physicians and community outreach programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and markets quality-assurance measures and ensures appropriate follow-up.
- Evaluates nutrition education services and programs for hospital staff, home care patients, outpatients, and the community.
- Develops policies and procedures for all nutrition education services and programs. Compiles or develops and updates nutrition education materials in cooperation with the clinical staff.
- Uses quality assurance results to present the cost-effectiveness of nutrition education services and programs to third-party payers to encourage and maintain third-party reimbursements.
- Participates in hospital and community committee activities concerned with nutrition. Serves as a nutrition resource person in the hospital and to the community.
- Coordinates in-service training on modified diets for appropriate hospital staff.
- Keeps informed of new developments in dietetics and maintains registration by reading current literature and attending professional continuing education meetings.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in the field of dietetics including courses in food preparation and service.
- Certification from the American Dietary Association preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a related field of dietary work.
- A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
