Job Summary:
The Patient Accounts Manager will oversee the department in compliance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, goals, and budget of the department and hospital and will perform credit and collection functions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruits, orients, trains, evaluates, and monitors on-the-job performance of department staff.
- Prepares the annual budget and manages the staff and department consistent with approved budgetary goals.
- Establishes and achieves goals and objectives for the department that are consistent with hospital goals.
- Prepares work schedules, makes job assignments, and prepares and approves the weekly payroll for department staff.
- Manages the department in compliance with policies and procedures of the hospital, regulations or applicable regulatory agencies, and standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in formulating the hospital's credit and collection policy and administers "write-offs" in accordance with the Board-approved credit and collection policy. Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for the department.
- Cultivates, maintains, and enhances intradepartmental and medical staff relationships. Plans and implements staff development activities.
- Identifies, collects, and reports relevant statistical data to reflect the activities of the department and staff.
- Prepares delinquent accounts for collection and acts as liaison for the hospital in the collection process.
- Interviews patients at admission and discharge.
- Administers the Uncompensated Care Program and Administratively Necessary Day records.
- Reviews data obtained by the Admitting Department for completeness and accuracy.
- Represents the hospital in court on credit and collection matters.
- Assists staff in various functions required to monitor and collect delinquent patient accounts.

Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in business administration or related management required.
- Three to four years of experience in a patient accounts office in a hospital required; one year of supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and typing on a computer.
- Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.
