Job Summary:
The Reporter gathers information and writes articles on federal, state, and local news events and happenings.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Gathers information and facts; develops stories; writes articles.
- Investigates, observes, and conducts interviews to gather information for articles.
- Reports on current events at the local, state, and/or federal level.
- Writes article and headlines; prepares copy for publication.
- May take photographs or video footage of objects or places of significance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent research skills.
- Ability to conduct interviews and gather information.
- Excellent typing skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.
- Proficient with desktop publishing software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field required.
- Two years of reporting experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse various terrains to cover stories and conduct interviews.
