Soil and Plant Scientist




Job Summary:

The Soil and Plant Scientist conducts research on soil, crops, and other agricultural products.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Examines composition of soil regarding plant or crop growth.
  • Investigates effects of various soil treatment practices on crop productivity.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve crop yields.
  • Demonstrates techniques and modifications to enhance production to farmers and crop developers.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements methods of conserving and managing soil.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements methods to control weeds and pests.
  • Prepares and presents or distributes reports highlighting research findings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Agriculture Science or related field required; graduate degree preferred.
  • One to three years of related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk/in a laboratory and working on a computer.
  • Ability to traverse various types of terrain to collect soil samples and inspect crops.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
