Job Summary:
The Soil and Plant Scientist conducts research on soil, crops, and other agricultural products.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Examines composition of soil regarding plant or crop growth.
- Investigates effects of various soil treatment practices on crop productivity.
- Identifies opportunities to improve crop yields.
- Demonstrates techniques and modifications to enhance production to farmers and crop developers.
- Identifies, develops, and implements methods of conserving and managing soil.
- Identifies, develops, and implements methods to control weeds and pests.
- Prepares and presents or distributes reports highlighting research findings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of agricultural techniques and principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent research skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate research findings.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Agriculture Science or related field required; graduate degree preferred.
- One to three years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk/in a laboratory and working on a computer.
- Ability to traverse various types of terrain to collect soil samples and inspect crops.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
