Ambulance Driver




Job Summary:

Drives ambulance or assists ambulance driver in transporting sick, injured, or convalescing persons.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Accompanies and assists emergency medical technicians on calls. Drives ambulances or assists ambulance drivers in transporting sick, injured, or convalescing persons.
  • Places patients on stretchers and loads stretchers into ambulances usually with assistance from other attendants. Administers first aid such as bandaging, splinting, and administering oxygen.
  • Restrains or shackles violent patients.
  • Removes and replaces soiled linens and equipment to maintain sanitary conditions. Replaces supplies and disposable items on ambulances.
  • Reports facts concerning accidents or emergencies to hospital staff or law enforcement officials.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current drivers license required.
  • Ambulance drivers certificate required.
  • Understanding of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures that apply to ambulance service.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting while driving.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times with or without assistance.
