Anesthesia Technician




Job Summary:

Operate as a member of the anesthesia team by maintaining equipment and supplies and assisting with sterile procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Stocks anesthesia supplies and drugs in all operating and delivery suites. Maintains adequate supplies of medical oxygen, nitrous oxide, and air.
  • Consults operating room schedule to determine equipment needs for special procedures and prepares operating room accordingly.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots anesthesia department equipment according to instructions and protocols of equipment manuals. Cleans and disinfects anesthesia equipment after use.
  • Assists with sterile procedures, including Swan-Ganz placements, blood transfusions, administration of spinal, epidural, and other pain blockers.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience in a health or patient-care related field including six months of training and experience working in an operating room.
  • Regular attendance and satisfactory performance for at least six months at hospital workshops and training classes.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
