Announcer Newscaster




The Announcer/Newscaster will report the news to the public via radio, television, or similar medium.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Presents news stories to radio or television audience.
  • Monitors local, national, and international news sources multiple times daily.
  • Verifies information with sources and ensures the accuracy of the news report.
  • Writes and edits news scripts when necessary.
  • Assists in developing program outline by coordinating with fellow reporters, sportscasters, and weathercasters.
  • Reports from the field when necessary based on the nature of the story.
  • Interviews guests for radio or television programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including editing skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read teleprompter for television or news report for radio.
  • Ability to conduct interviews either on television or radio.
  • Must have a pleasant voice and appearance.
  • Ability to project a sense of trustworthiness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Broadcast Communications, Journalism, English, or related field required.
  • Three years of experience in radio or television announcing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Ability to traverse various terrains when reporting from the field.
