Turnover Survey Data

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides an easy-to-use online tool to obtain current and historical turnover rates by industry. While BLS provides instructions for using this tool, please note the following helpful hints:

  • Turnover data is available only by region and size of employer when you select "Total nonfarm" or "Total private" as the industry.
  • Selecting "Total separations" for Field 4 will yield turnover rates for all separations, including voluntary and involuntary. Select a specific category if you wish to narrow the results.
  • To see annual averages, select "Not seasonally adjusted" in Field 7, and after clicking on "Get data," check the "Include annual averages" box at the top of the page.
  • To see a different range of years, change the year options at the top of the page after clicking on "Get data."
