Help Shape Workplace Policy Before Year-End: Three Ways SHRM Members Can Take Action


With the federal government reopening and congressional operations restored, Washington is now focused on the critical year-end decisions that will shape the future of work. During the shutdown, SHRM Members showed exceptional leadership, sending more than 1,200 messages to Congress and ensuring HR’s voice remained influential and impactful.

But with lawmakers turning to unfinished business, the marathon continues.

Before the end of the year, SHRM Members have a vital opportunity to advance key bipartisan workforce priorities. These proposals strengthen the education-to-employment pipeline and equip workers and employers with the tools they need to thrive. Your continued engagement will help ensure that workforce readiness and economic competitiveness remain top priorities for lawmakers. You can make your voice heard by visiting SHRM’s Advocacy Action Center and contacting your members of Congress about these three workplace priorities:

1. Advance the Youth Workforce Readiness Act of 2025 (H.R. 2910)

This bill expands mentoring, career exploration, and work-based learning opportunities for opportunity youth. Your engagement can help ensure young people gain the skills, coaching, and exposure they need to successfully transition into the workforce — especially as employers continue to navigate persistent skills gaps.

2. Strengthen Hiring Pathways Through the Connecting Small Businesses with CTE Graduates Act (H.R. 1642)

Small businesses depend on job-ready talent but often face barriers accessing graduates from career and technical education (CTE) programs. Supporting this bill helps streamline connections between classrooms and careers, providing employers with skilled candidates and helping students secure meaningful employment.

3. Encourage Congress to Reauthorize the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

WIOA modernizes America’s workforce training system. Reauthorization would update skills development programs, improve coordination across agencies, and expand access to upskilling opportunities. SHRM Members can play a pivotal role in urging Congress to act before year-end.

As policymakers make critical decisions in the weeks ahead, SHRM remains committed to equipping you with the tools, resources, and advocacy opportunities needed to strengthen work, workers, and workplaces nationwide.
