Recap of 2025 Elections
Numerous statewide, city, and local elections were held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Here are some of the more notable results.
- In Texas, acting Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee and former Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards, both Democrats, will advance to a runoff to replace Democratic U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died in March.
- In New Jersey, Democratic U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill won the race for governor.
- In Virginia, former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, won the race for governor.
- Democrat Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City.
- Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Democrat, appears to have won re-election, although a final decision may take some time.
- In California, Proposition 50, which allows the Democratic-controlled Legislature to draw the state’s congressional districts, passed decisively.
- And in Pennsylvania, voters re-elected three state Supreme Court justices, maintaining the high court’s Democratic majority.
