Save the Date: SHRM’s August In-District Advocacy Campaign Returns
This August, SHRM members across the country will once again take part in SHRM’s Annual In-District Advocacy Campaign, an opportunity to connect with lawmakers in their home districts while Congress is in recess. From Aug. 2 to Sept. 1, SHRM members will meet with their U.S. representatives and senators to advocate for workplace policies that reflect the real-world needs of employers and employees.
This year’s campaign will focus on timely and forward-looking workforce policy priorities — particularly those aimed at strengthening the pipeline between learning and earning. SHRM members will lead conversations around the strategies and supports needed to help individuals successfully transition from education and training to meaningful employment.
SHRM encourages members to begin planning now for how they can facilitate impactful engagements with their lawmakers during the recess period. Consider scheduling a district meeting, organizing a panel or roundtable discussion, or inviting lawmakers to tour your organization and see workforce development in action.
Want to get involved? Here’s how:
- If you are a SHRM chapter member, connect with your local chapter leadership to find your legislative director and learn how to join or coordinate a meeting.
- If you are not affiliated with a chapter, visit the SHRM Membership Councils website and reach out to your state council legislative director or membership director to participate.
You can also contact SHRM Government Affairs directly at governmentaffairs@shrm.org for help getting started or for more information about this year’s campaign.
More details and resources, including talking points, planning guides, and outreach materials, will be released soon. Now is the time to start preparing to elevate the voice of HR in your community.
Together, we can ensure lawmakers hear directly from HR professionals about what it takes to build a stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready workforce.
