SHRM CEO Participates in White House Task Force on AI Education
On Sept. 4, the White House hosted its Task Force on AI Education, bringing together Cabinet officials, federal science leaders, and private-sector partners to advance the Trump administration’s AI education and workforce agenda. The meeting reviewed progress since the June 4 session and formally launched the Presidential AI Challenge, a national competition encouraging K-12 students to develop AI-powered solutions to real-world community challenges.
External participants included organizations that signed “Our Pledge to America’s Youth: Investing in AI Education.” SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, participated in the meeting.
SHRM emphasized the importance of:
- Building foundational AI awareness and competency for K-12 students.
- Incorporating AI-relevant coursework and credentials into learning pathways.
- Ensuring employer involvement in defining workforce needs.
- Expanding partnerships between schools, employers, and workforce boards to support experiential, career-connected learning.
SHRM is committed to the HR community’s role in preparing students for the future of work and ensuring workforce development strategies remain aligned with employer demand.
