SHRM Highlights Global Workforce Strategies for an AI-Ready Future at Japanese Embassy
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the global economy, SHRM is helping shape the conversation on how employers, educators, and policymakers can prepare the workforce for the future. During a recent international seminar hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C., SHRM Chief Knowledge Officer Dr. Alex Alonso joined workforce leaders from government, industry, and international organizations to discuss strategies for building an AI-ready workforce.
The discussion focused on the skills and policies needed to help workers succeed in an AI-enabled economy, including reskilling, lifelong learning, skills-based hiring, and stronger partnerships between employers and education providers. Dr. Alonso also highlighted SHRM's AI + HI (Artificial Intelligence + Human Intelligence) initiative, emphasizing that organizations achieve the greatest success when they pair technological innovation with uniquely human capabilities such as judgment, critical thinking, ethics, and leadership.
The event brought together labor and workforce representatives from the embassies of Japan, Germany, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, and the Republic of Korea, along with representatives from the European Union. The engagement reflects SHRM's growing role as a trusted global voice on workforce policy and reinforces its commitment to ensuring that AI adoption advances both organizational performance and human potential.
