SHRM Members Attend Congressional Field Hearing on AI and the Workforce in Georgia
SHRM members from the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) chapter attended a congressional field hearing in Augusta, Ga., focused on how artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities and changing skills needs across the American workforce.
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce held the July 24 hearing, titled “Building an AI-Ready America: How AI Is Creating Opportunities Across America’s Workforce,” at Augusta University’s Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center. The event marked the committee’s eighth hearing in a series examining artificial intelligence.
Witnesses included Ajikumar Parayil, founder and CEO of Manus Bio; Brad Edenfield, a farmer and general manager of RT Farms Inc.; and Dr. Jeffery Talbert, a professor and department chair of artificial intelligence and health at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
The hearing explored how employers and workers are using AI, the opportunities technology may create across industries, and the importance of preparing the workforce with the skills needed to adapt as jobs evolve.
For HR professionals, the continued expansion of AI raises important questions about workforce planning, employee training, job design, responsible technology adoption, and the skills employers will need in the years ahead.
