HR Roundtable with Meet & Mingle: My company just received a demand letter – now what?

Getting a demand letter can feel like a gut punch, especially when the demand letter details multiple employment related claims and high damages—but it doesn’t have to be a crisis. This interactive roundtable session with local Northern California employment law attorney, Kari Brown, will involve an intimate conversation on the challenges Northern California employers are facing in the employment litigation arena. Kari will discuss exactly what to do (and what not to do) the moment a demand letter lands on your desk.  The following are examples of issues we expect will be covered in this session:

  • How to quickly assess the situation and protect your organization
  • Key legal and strategic considerations before you respond
  • Steps to preserve evidence and manage risk
  • Communication do’s and don’ts with employees, attorneys, and regulators
  • When to fight, negotiate, or settle

The goal of this session is to give you the tools, confidence, and action plan to navigate demand letters with clarity and control—minimizing disruption to your business.

Kari Brow

Partner, Spaulding McCullough & Tansil LLP

Kari Brown’s practice primarily focuses on employment law, providing counsel on recent developments in the law, wage and hour issues, employee leaves, immigration issues, background check compliance, employment agreements, exempt status analysis, workplace investigations, workplace violence restraining orders, severance packages, and the termination process. She enjoys problem-solving with clients and discovering proactive and practical solutions for the various employment law issues that come their way. Kari also assists employers with creating effective employment policies and handbooks as well as advises on best practices in the employment arena. In addition to advising clients on employment matters, Kari is adept at litigating employment cases whether in Superior Court or with the various administrative agencies. Although employment law is her main area of focus, Kari is also experienced in handling general civil litigation matters, including business and contractual disputes and personal injury matters. Kari’s breadth of experience in various areas of the law gives her the unique ability to give her clients well-rounded and sound advice.
