One of the largest and most comprehensive sources of free salary information is the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has salary survey data for many different positions in various industries as well as for specific geographic locations. Use SHRM's members-only Salary Benchmarking Tool to view and compare annual and hourly BLS compensation and pay structure reports for more than 800 jobs nationally, by state and metro area.

If you are looking for single salary reports based on HR-reported data, check out the SHRM Compensation Data Center. In collaboration with Salary.com, SHRM provides access to salary information for 15,000+ job titles, across 225 industries. Single salary reports are just $220.50 for SHRM members ($245 for non members) and each report can be customized by industry, geographic location, and company size (revenue and FTEs). Visit The SHRMStore for more information.

Many companies and consulting firms also offer fee-based salary survey data, some of which are listed in SHRM's Vendor Directory
