Timeline: FLSA Milestones Throughout the Years

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) turns 80 this year. In 1938, the act established a minimum wage, overtime premiums and child labor laws. Those rules have evolved over the years with increases to the minimum wage, protections for more categories of workers and changes to exemptions. Most recently, a federal judge rejected a rule that would have doubled the salary threshold for the white-collar exemptions to overtime pay requirements. However, labor law experts expect that a less-substantial increase to the salary threshold is coming soon. Here are some of the key FLSA changes over the years.
