Discussions, media narratives, and policy debates around technological change and the workforce have historically been characterized by contrasting extremes and wildly varying predictions about future developments. This past tendency continues in the present with an increasingly animated debate about whether/how automation and GenAI will displace employment and reshape the world of work. However, to date this discussion has placed relatively little emphasis on worker beliefs regarding displacement risk. We seek to fill that knowledge gap in this data brief by leveraging survey data from the SHRM 2025 Automation/AI Survey to explore worker expectations about automation and GenAI job displacement risk in the near future.
