Download the Servant Leadership Daily Checklist

Review this checklist every morning to center your leadership actions around service and inclusion. Small, intentional steps each day will create a positive impact on your organization and your people.

1. Prioritize Active Listening

  • Think of the last conversation you had with a team member. Did you spend more time listening or talking? Remember to start every conversation with the intent to understand. 
  • Ask open-ended questions like, “How can I support you today?” or “What do you think?”

2. Empower Your Team

  • What did you spend the majority of your day on today? Were there any meaningful tasks you can delegate to team members to encourage their growth and autonomy?
  • What training needs for your team did you notice in the course of your week? Do you already have said training available, or do you need to seek it out? 

3. Lead with Humility

  • How did you take accountability today? 
  • Were there any opportunities to offer assistance when extra help was needed? 
  • Be mindful of team workloads and lead by example in maintaining boundaries.

4. Foster Collaboration and Inclusion

  • Is there someone on your team who you want to lead the next brainstorming session? 
  • During the most recent meeting you led, did you hear from the same usual suspects? Try to embrace silence to ensure everyone has a chance to contribute during team discussions. 
  • Did you encourage diverse perspectives and ensure that everyone felt valued?

5. Acknowledge and Celebrate Successes

  • What wins did your team have this week? How did you celebrate them? 
  • Did someone on your team nail a task or project this week? Why not stop to send an email or Slack message — direct or public — to acknowledge them? 

6. Provide and Receive Constructive Feedback

  • What feedback did you give this week? Was it framed as an opportunity for growth? 
  • At a one-on-one meeting this week, ask one direct report to share their honest feedback with you. 

7. Be Adaptive and Supportive

  • Did you adjust your leadership style to meet individual team members’ needs? 
  • Did you consider the long-term impact of your choices on your team and stakeholders?
