Assistant Public Safety Administrator

Job Summary:

The Assistant Public Safety Administrator will provide administrative and support services within the Department of Fire and Public Safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.


  • Provides administrative and support services to the Administrator.
  • Assists with the coordination of disaster management projects of the department, including those related to fire and rescue administration, emergency medical procedures, and rescue techniques.
  • Assists with budget preparation, program changes, development of goals, and short- and long-range planning.
  • Maintains necessary files and records to prove the department is compliant with local, state, and national safety laws, guidelines, and ordinances.
  • Assists with employee training, development, and relations as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting and rescue principles and practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of emergency medical techniques and Emergency Medical Services delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative principles and tasks.
  • Ability to remain calm in high pressure situations.
  • Current knowledge of principles and techniques involved in emergency services.
  • Ability to maintain necessary files and administrative records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in Fire Science preferred, but extensive previous responsibility and experience in Fire and Rescue Services may be substituted.
  • At least three years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, and rescue operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to traverse many dangerous and hazardous areas during a variety of situations, including fires and flooding.
