Job Summary:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing patient care for designated shifts. The Charge Nurse will report to the Nursing Coordinator and will work with related departments on ensuring that patient care issues are addressed during the designated shift.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists staff nurses in their evaluation and assessment of patient needs and in direct patient care. Orders medications as prescribed.
- Manages scheduling of patient appointments and receives a report from the previous shift of on all patients and identifies special patient care needs. Adjusts patient assignments to meet special needs.
- Makes patient rounds and notes problems for follow-up.
- Participates in staff conferences.
- Makes nursing assignments for the next day.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Nursing and leadership skills.
Education and Experience:
- Professional nurse with current state license.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift 15-25 pounds at times.
