Job Summary:

The Hazardous Materials Removal Worker will identify and safely dispose of hazardous wastes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Identifies and removes hazardous wastes such as asbestos, lead-based paint, oil, fuel, radioactive materials, or contaminated soil.
• Conducts tests on hazardous materials to determine proper cleanup methods.
• Follows safety procedures to ensure cleanup is done properly.
• Prepares hazardous materials for safe and legal transport.
• Cleans equipment that may have been contaminated during removal process.
• Records types of materials removed and methods used to clean up contaminated areas.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of hazardous removal procedures and techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to read user manuals for products used to clean up contaminants.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to use power equipment and hand tools to clean up hazardous materials.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of on-the-job Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training required.
• Previous experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Physically able to remove or clean up hazardous materials.
• Able to lift up to 35 pounds at a time.
