Job Summary:
The Insurance Claims Adjuster will review, investigate, and make efforts to adjust insurance claims filed against the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Receives notices of incidents that are likely to have an insurance or loss impact. Counsels field managers to obtain background information on the incident by interviewing witnesses and obtaining guidance through medical care and control.
- Arranges for outside professional investigations in serious incident cases. Advises appropriate law enforcement authorities if facts warrant.
- Contacts building and property department to arrange for building and property repairs.
- Contacts injured persons to determine course of treatment and likely extent of claim. May personally investigate incident scenes, take notes, and record incident scenes with video recorder.
- Meets with claimant and/or attorneys to negotiate claim settlements.
- Contacts the companys legal department to alert them of claim if it is likely to go to litigation.
- Advises supervisor of progress toward claim settlements and requests additional bargaining scope when warranted.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills with management, employees, and outsiders.
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Education and Experience:
- At least five years of experience in examining and concluding multi-line insurance claims. College courses in insurance subjects desired.
- Background in police investigation of claims desired; experience in trial preparation highly desirable.
- Background in medical and dental coding helpful.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
