Job Summary:
The Insurance Department Supervisor will manage and oversee the timely and accurate processing of insurance claims and will address staff and client inquiries regarding the claims process.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the assigned department.
- Hires and trains staff involved in processing claims.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides support and guidance to claims management staff and other direct reports.
- Processes or facilitates and oversees processing of assigned insurance claims.
- Handles special claims, which may include workers compensation, Medicare, Title 19, and company claims.
- Prepares medical/legal reports and corresponds with attorneys, insurers, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Reviews insurance claims for errors before sending them to responsible parties.
- Drafts narrative reports to be shared with the applicable service providers.
- Oversees the preparation of disability and return-to-work documents.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of service providers including medical and legal professionals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors degree in related field preferred.
- Five years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
