Job Summary:

The Insurance Department Supervisor will manage and oversee the timely and accurate processing of insurance claims and will address staff and client inquiries regarding the claims process.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the assigned department.
• Hires and trains staff involved in processing claims.
• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provides support and guidance to claims management staff and other direct reports.
• Processes or facilitates and oversees processing of assigned insurance claims.
• Handles special claims, which may include workers compensation, Medicare, Title 19, and company claims.
• Prepares medical/legal reports and corresponds with attorneys, insurers, and other stakeholders as needed.
• Reviews insurance claims for errors before sending them to responsible parties.
• Drafts narrative reports to be shared with the applicable service providers.
• Oversees the preparation of disability and return-to-work documents.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of service providers including medical and legal professionals.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors degree in related field preferred.
• Five years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
