Job Summary:
The Mail Center Supervisor will oversee all operations of the mail center including routing, postage, and management of staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Hires and trains mail center clerks and maintains employment files.
- Oversees the day-to-day workflow of the department including job assignments and scheduling.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Schedules and prioritizes mailroom services.
- Picks up, delivers, and processes interdepartmental and external (U.S., international) mail, parcels, and other materials.
- Operates mailroom machinery including postage metering and document insertion equipment; performs basic maintenance as needed.
- Maintains and develops records for billing, inventory, mailing, and parcel shipping.
- Orders materials and supplies needed for the mail center.
- Develops and maintains relationships with vendors, departmental customers, and other related individuals.
- Oversees and maintains mail center budget.
- Negotiates maintenance and new purchase contracts for machinery.
- Oversees gathering, storage, and redistribution of surplus property.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent managerial skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of U.S. postal regulations.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work.
- Ability to use or learn to use mail center equipment and software.
Education and Experience:
- At least two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience to provide necessary knowledge and abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel as needed.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry, and move items weighing over 70 pounds.
