Job Summary:
The Refuse and Recyclable Material Collector accompanies the Refuse Truck Operator on a pre-determined route, ensuring that trash and recyclable materials are cleared from the community in a timely and orderly fashion.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Accompanies Refuse Truck Operator along pre-determined route and schedule, collecting trash and recyclable materials.
- Collects refuse and recyclable materials using automated or manual methods, dismounting and remounting trucks as needed.
- Notifies dispatchers and/or supervisors of delays, unsafe sites, accidents, breakdowns, or other issues.
- Operates machinery to hoist or compress refuse.
- May occasionally operate refuse truck in absence of Refuse Truck Operator.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to adhere to safety standards and guidelines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Class B Drivers License or similar classification sufficient to operate refuse truck preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, lifting, and throwing.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Exposure to strong odors.
