Job Summary:
The Senior Engineering Technician will conduct complex paraprofessional engineering division activities including but not limited to design preparation, records maintenance, and other technical support.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May hire, train, and oversee subordinate staff in the department.
- May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of junior staff in the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts research to support engineering projects. Research will vary by project and engineering discipline but may include review of legal documents, records, maps, and files to establish property ownership, legal descriptions of real property, applicable industry or local standards, etc.
- Interprets instructions, specifications, and other pertinent information and communicates information to staff.
- Conducts complex layout drafting, formulating designs and drawings for various projects.
- Resolves conflicts among owners, contractors, and other parties within scope of authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to interpret and communicate engineering plans and specifications.
- Good understanding of engineering design and drafting, and the terms and methods used in engineering procedures.
- Ability to use algebraic formulas, statistical mathematics, and trigonometry tables to accomplish assigned jobs.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma and either additional pre-engineering related coursework or vocational school; OR equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
- At least three years of experience required including supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
