Celebrating 80 Years of Disability Employment Awareness
October 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a celebration of the contributions of workers with disabilities. This year's theme, "Celebrating Value and Talent," highlights achievements across workplaces nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) is spotlighting the theme, emphasizing talent, resilience, and accomplishments across decades.
SHRM has partnered with ODEP for nearly 20 years, expanding opportunities through the SHRM Foundation's untapped talent pools initiative and as a founding member of the CEO Commission for Disability Employment.
Throughout NDEAM, organizations are sharing stories, resources, and strategies to showcase inclusion in action. From member spotlights to early findings from an upcoming SHRM disability study, the month amplifies the visibility and impact of inclusive practices.
This focus on removing barriers to opportunity for workers with disabilities also connects to SHRM's broader workforce agenda of assisting our nation's pool of untapped talent — part of the E² (Education-to-Employment) Initiative. The goal is to ensure that talent, not obstacles, defines opportunity. The goal is to ensure that talent, not obstacles, defines opportunity.
NDEAM is both a celebration and a checkpoint: reflecting on progress while highlighting areas where engagement, visibility, and inclusion can grow even further.
