EEOC Restores Quorum and a Chair Designated
On Oct. 27, Republican Brittany Panuccio was officially sworn in as a commissioner on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for a term set to expire in 2029. The EEOC enforces federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, and genetic information.
On Nov. 6, Andrea Lucas was designated Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). She has served on the commission since 2020 and became Acting Chair on Jan. 20, 2025. She was confirmed by the Senate on July 31, 2025, for a new term ending July 1, 2030.
With Panuccio’s confirmation, the EEOC now has three voting members, restoring its quorum. This allows it to resume voting on guidance and regulatory rulemaking. The EEOC is expected to begin issuing guidance and regulations consistent with the Trump administration’s policy priorities, likely starting with the commission’s 2024 harassment guidance and regulations for the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
