Workplace Law Trends: Highlights from SHRM’s Comprehensive Forum
The SHRM Workplace Law Forum 2024 brought together HR professionals, legal experts, and government leaders to explore key developments shaping workplace policies. Opening the event was SHRM Chief of Staff and Head of Government Affairs Emily M. Dickens, who moderated a panel titled “Post-Election Outlook: Adapting to a Changing Administration, a New Congress, and Increased Workplace Tensions.” This session offered a comprehensive overview of anticipated policy shifts, enforcement trends, and policymaking. Dickens was joined by former Reps. Toby Moffett and Vin Weber, partners at public strategy firm Mercury.
Mike Aitken, EVP of HR Professional Solutions at SHRM, moderated “The View from the EEOC: Navigating Workplace Law and Enforcement Trends,” featuring Jocelyn Samuels, vice chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and Janet Dhillon, former EEOC chair and commissioner.
SHRM CHRO Jim Link, SHRM-SCP, moderated a session titled “Navigating the Leave Law Labyrinth: Mastering ADA, PWFA, FMLA, Workers’ Comp, and More,” offering expert guidance on managing complex leave laws.
The forum also covered critical areas such as pay transparency, workplace culture, health care, and AI’s growing role in HR. Sessions such as “Navigating Federal Contracting Compliance: Upcoming Changes and Strategies” and “Mastering Wage and Hour Laws: Navigating Compliance with Confidence” equipped attendees with actionable strategies to address today’s challenges.
