Workplace Flexibility:
A Competitive Advantage
The modern workplace continues to evolve, but flexible work benefits are gradually being scaled back. Since 2022, the percentage of employers who rate flexible work benefits as “very important” or “extremely important” has steadily declined, with notable decreases in offerings like flextime during core business hours (down 6 percentage points) and hybrid work opportunities (down 3 percentage points).
While some benefits, such as four-day workweeks and break arrangements, have seen slight increases, the overall trend suggests a pullback in flexibility. Despite this, certain benefits, including subsidies for at-home equipment, remain prevalent, though their availability has dipped slightly. Employers might consider adopting alternative modes of working, such as limited-time work-from-anywhere arrangements (new to the Benefits survey in 2026), which 27% of employers have already implemented; they will stand out in the search for quality talent as a result.
