Job Summary:
The Dietetic Technician will assist the Head Dietitian to plan, implement, and provide nutrition services for the hospital.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in obtaining diet history for use in the development of special patient menus and diet counseling.
- Assists in counseling diabetic patients and others with special needs about dietary requirements for their illnesses.
- Assists in supervising food preparation of special menus.
- Interviews patients to get their reactions to quality of food service and their responses to their recommended diets.
- Speaks to family members to make them aware of dietary needs of the patient and offer suggestions about following prescribed diets.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Caring, helpful bedside manner.
- Accuracy in preparing reports about patients dietary requirements.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a two-year program approved by the American Dietetic Association as a dietetic technician.
- State license required. Accreditation by the American Dietetic Association preferred.
- At least six months of experience or internship in a healthcare dietary department.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
