Job Summary:

The Medical Equipment Repairer will keep hospital equipment in excellent operating condition at all times, make repairs whenever possible and use outside repair services when required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains an inventory of spare parts and maintenance manuals for all hospital equipment.
• Examines equipment that is not functioning properly to identify the problem, orders parts as needed, makes repairs if possible, or calls an outside repair service when required.
• Repairs equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, suction equipment, respirators, and x-ray equipment.
• Tests and operates new equipment before it is accepted by hospital.
• Instructs staff in the proper regular maintenance procedures and schedules major overhauls according to manufacturers specifications.
• Makes periodic checks to ensure that equipment is kept clean and running reliably.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Adept with hand and power tools.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to keep accurate maintenance and inventory records.
• Ability to work independently.

Education and Experience:

• At least one year of experience in a similar position under an experienced repairer.
• Trade school training helpful but not required.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, kneeling and lifting.
• Must be able to lift more than 15 pounds at times.
