Job Summary:
The Medical Equipment Repairer will keep hospital equipment in excellent operating condition at all times, make repairs whenever possible and use outside repair services when required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains an inventory of spare parts and maintenance manuals for all hospital equipment.
- Examines equipment that is not functioning properly to identify the problem, orders parts as needed, makes repairs if possible, or calls an outside repair service when required.
- Repairs equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, suction equipment, respirators, and x-ray equipment.
- Tests and operates new equipment before it is accepted by hospital.
- Instructs staff in the proper regular maintenance procedures and schedules major overhauls according to manufacturers specifications.
- Makes periodic checks to ensure that equipment is kept clean and running reliably.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Adept with hand and power tools.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to keep accurate maintenance and inventory records.
- Ability to work independently.
Education and Experience:
- At least one year of experience in a similar position under an experienced repairer.
- Trade school training helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, kneeling and lifting.
- Must be able to lift more than 15 pounds at times.
