Nuclear Medicine Technologist




Job Summary:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform all nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection, administer radiopharmaceuticals and apply immobilization and radiation protection devices according to policy and procedure.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Receives consultation requests, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with the radiologist as necessary. Greets patients, confirms their identification and correctness of the procedure. Explains examination procedure to the patient and family, if present.
  • Updates the patient examination history file, records unusual conditions/limitations, documents examination time, room number, and technique factors. Completes examination, consultation, and billing procedures. Completes paperwork as applicable.
  • Performs visual preventive safety inspections. Reports dangerous building or equipment conditions to appropriate staff. Takes steps to correct disruption caused by a failure in the assigned area and if unable to do so, reports the failure immediately to the supervisor.
  • Maintains the inventory of supplies for the assigned room or workstation, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items. Reports shortages of materials to the supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with rules, regulations and orders of the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services including requirements of the administrative code and any conditions specified in the Radioactive Materials License.
  • Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations, attends in-service education programs and staff meetings.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in the use of all tools and equipment relative to nuclear medicine and other office equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of AMA-approved school of nuclear medicine.
  • State certification.
  • ARRT certification or NMTCB certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, moving and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
