How Vulnerable Is Your HR Job to AI Displacement?

Take this short quiz to determine whether your HR role is more likely to be displaced by AI.


As automation and generative AI rapidly reshape the workplace, HR professionals face new opportunities and challenges. This quiz is designed to help you assess how exposed your current HR role is to job displacement risk from emerging technologies. Use your results to inform your workforce planning and professional development strategies.

For each question, select the answer that best describes your current role and situation.

What is your primary HR role?
What percentage of your tasks are currently automated (using any technology)?
What percentage of your tasks are currently done using Generative AI (GenAI)?
If a technology existed that could do your job completely autonomously, would there be real-world barriers that would prevent your job from being automated?
Which of the following nontechnical barriers apply to your role? (Select all that apply)
How quickly has your organization adopted new automation or AI technologies in HR?
How much of your daily work involves interpersonal communication, coaching, or conflict resolution?

Results and Next Steps

High Risk

Your role is highly exposed to automation and AI displacement. Consider proactive upskilling, seeking roles with strong nontechnical barriers, and discussing future-proofing strategies with leadership.

But before you panic, note that SHRM’s Automation, Generative AI, and Job Displacement Risk in HR Employment found that overall, 9.3% of HR employment is at higher risk of job displacement. While that number is slightly higher than all U.S. employment, which SHRM found to be at about 6%, it still represents a small number of jobs within HR.

Medium Risk

You face moderate exposure to AI displacement. Continue to build your skills and knowledge on effective uses of AI in HR. In addition, focus on developing interpersonal and judgment-based skills, and participate enthusiastically in organizational change initiatives.
